D3O® LightsOut™ Small Arms Ammunition

Available in a variety of popular calibers, ranging from as compact as 5.6 ×15mmR to as large as 12.7 × 99mm, LightsOut™ cartridges are designed specifically for urban pacification and riot control operations.

Unlike traditional "less than lethal" solutions from our competitors, LightsOut™ offers clients the worlds first truly non-lethal loads for their existing firearm systems.

LightsOut™ utilizes a combination of specially formulated propellant, designed to achieve standard chamber pressures, and an appropriate quantity of D3O® material, suspended in a capsule designed to ablate during flight. This ensures that traditional velocities and ballistics can be obtained without significant alteration to weapon platforms prior to use.

How does D3O® LightsOut™ ensure pacification of target?

Whilst the exact formulation of D3O® materials remain the restricted intellectual property of this manufacturer, the principles of non-newtonian fluids have been explored for many years for a variety of purposes. In the case of LightsOut™, a material exhibiting shear thickening properties is utilized to manipulate the impact profile of the "projectile" to achieve a specific physical effect.

Similar to electrical solutions for less-than-lethal crowd control, the impact of a LightsOut™projectile on a target overloads the target's central nervous system via impact stimulation of epidermal nerve cells. The properties of the material are designed to eliminate the risk of damage to the target, while ensuring the threshold for CNS shock is exceeded.

In rare cases, the presence of body armor or other protective materials (such as D3O® BodyShield™) can limit the effectiveness of LightsOut™; in cases where the engagement of armored targets is required, we would recommend the use of higher caliber weapon systems, which can result in a wider spread and higher area of operation for projectile impacts, ensuring pacification of the target.

Will targets be damaged by D3O® LightsOut™?

We are pleased to confirm that as of March 2017, LightsOut™ has received both DoD certification as "NON LETHAL" (first in class), and MOD certification as "suitable for situation resolution by civilian law enforcement". Metrics for both these certifications require that any solution result in zero physical damage to the target.

Can D3O® LightsOut™ exacerbate secondary conditions?

Unlike TASER or other electrical solutions, because LightsOut™ exclusively utilizes kinetic energy rather than electrical impulses, it has been determined to be zero-risk when dealing with threats with pre-existing cardiac conditions, making it preferable to electrical alternatives in threat situations with unknown or aging demographics.
