Biography & background:

Phoenix Yee was born in 1993 in Singapore. They were left up for adoption at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital. Yee's adoptive parents are Katrin Yee (née van Berg) and Gordon Yee.

After graduating from high school they applied for a degree in architecture at the university of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. During their time at university they developed a profound interest in birdwatching and photography. Being always invested and successful in the competitive Starcraft scene, Yee got picked up by the international e-sports organization eXcel - a division of REDACTED. Being under contract allowed Yee to focus on their studies. After winning several tournaments Yee would retire from e-sports at the age of 25 and use their savings to finance their enrollment into a PhD program for architecture.
