Biography & background:
Poppy Blackburn is a 28 year old woman born and raised in Ohio, USA. A rough start led to a life of self-imposed shelter and avoidance, as well as empathy and compassion. When she can gather the nerve to act.
Subject to an abusive father (Robert) and a wholly indifferent mother (Joanne), Poppy spent most of her teenage years trying to find ways to dull the pain of her home life while also seeking the love and attention she deeply craved. This culminated in a suicide attempt at the age of 17, at which point her mother was all-too happy to hand her over into the care of her maternal aunt (Leslie Jones), a childless doctor and one of the few people in either side of Poppy's family who had her life together.
Under her aunt's care and guidance, Poppy managed to scrape by and finish the rest of highschool (after a short stay in a mental institution) and enroll in a community college. A talented artist, Poppy had held a longtime dream of becoming a comic or storybook illustrator, one that seemed like it might finally be coming into view.
Things fell apart once more as Poppy struggled to maintain control of her mental health and she was forced out of college, instead taking a minor secretarial role at her aunt's practice. Years of therapy and medicine changes found Poppy in a stable, if unfulfilling life. Aside from work, most of her days were spent playing video games or watching youtube videos, sleeping, or daydreaming about what might have been. Then one quiet evening in may 2021, after a long shift and a dinner of Cup-Noodle ramen, she fell asleep and woke up on a mysterious, icy beach..
