X-07931 was one of the early experiments in dimensional matter transference. It was deemed a failure, since none of the test subjects was detected in the adjacent dimension. The project was closed down and the assets assigned to a new project.

What actually happened was that everyone was shifted out of phase with our dimension, but not shunted to the adjected dimension. So they are all here, we just can't see them or hear them. They can, through significant force of will, exert energy on physical matter.

Some of the Disembodied are still coherent. Some have gone mad from the effects.
